Fr Santhosh Bapu

A Shepherd Rooted in Love, Vision, and Service
Rev. Fr. Santhosh Bapu, Vicar General of the Diocese of Gulbarga
Born on the joyful day of December 25, 1979, in Palahally, Mandya District, Fr. Santhosh Bapu brings the spirit of Christmas into every aspect of his ministry — a life radiating hope, compassion, and dedication. Ordained a priest on April 17, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Church, Palahally, his journey from humble beginnings to esteemed leadership is marked by unwavering service to both God and humanity.
Fr. Bapu is not only a pastor but a visionary, equipped with a Master’s degree in Sociology and a Diploma in Development Leadership from the Coady Institute, Canada. His theological and philosophical formation at St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, laid a strong foundation for a ministry that blends pastoral care with social action.
From his early days at Yesu Christsalaya, Ujini, to his leadership at ORBIT, Sevasangama, Kristashram, and Sacred Heart Mission, Aland, Fr. Bapu has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. His crowning achievement — the founding of SPARSHA, a home for children living with HIV — stands as a testament to his deep empathy and courageous love. Over 100 children have found shelter, education, and dignity under his care.
His influence reaches far beyond parish boundaries. Fr. Bapu has served the Diocese in multiple capacities: as Director of Social Concerns & Development, member of the College of Consultors, the Council of Priests, and the Diocesan Pastoral Council. His leadership is marked by a rare balance of spiritual depth and administrative excellence.
A man of action and compassion, he is also known for his personal acts of generosity — donating blood more than 30 times, registering as an eye donor, and actively engaging with civil society through the Rotary Club, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and other organizations. His work has earned him several accolades, including the Kannada Rajyotsava Award, Makkala Kalyana Award, and recognition as an exemplary blood donor by DAPCU, Bidar.
On August 2, 2025, Fr. Santhosh Bapu officially assumed the office of Vicar General of the Diocese of Gulbarga. This new role reflects the trust and esteem of the Bishop and the entire diocesan community, affirming his gifts of leadership, wisdom, and service.
As he embraces this new responsibility, the Diocese of Gulbarga looks ahead with faith and gratitude. Fr. Santhosh Bapu embodies the servant-leadership of Christ — rooted in the Gospel, alive to the cries of the poor, and ever ready to lead the Church with courage, humility, and vision.
May his ministry continue to bear abundant fruit as he walks forward in the name of Christ, the Good Shepherd.
