KALABURAGI – A profound and joyful celebration unfolded on September 21, 2025, as the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) and the laity of the Gulbarga Diocese marked their Jubilee Year. The day-long event, held at the historic Mother of Divine Grace Cathedral in Kalaburagi, brought together over 120 faithful under the inspiring theme, “Be devoted to one another in love” (Romans 12:10).
The celebrations began with a moment of deep reverence as the Most Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, led a solemn procession. The Word of God was reverently carried to the beautifully adorned altar, symbolizing its central and guiding role in the life of the Church. Following a melodious inaugural song by the residential girls of the Cathedral, the gathering was officially welcomed by Fr. Clary D’Souza.
In his keynote address, Bishop Miranda passionately called upon the faithful to actively participate in strengthening their BECs and to embrace their crucial role as laity in building vibrant communities rooted in faith and service. The morning session was enriched by parishes sharing their inspiring journeys and contributions within their local BECs and pastoral ministries, painting a vivid picture of the diocese’s collaborative spirit.
The program featured key sessions designed to deepen understanding and commitment. Rev. Fr. Maxim Dias, the Regional Secretary for the BEC Commission, delivered a powerful talk on the importance of communion, participation, and mission within BECs. This was followed by an insightful presentation on Church Leadership by Dr. Isabella Xavier, the Regional Joint Secretary for the SC & ST Commission, who underscored the laity’s responsibility to be true witnesses of Christ in society.
After a time of fellowship and shared lunch, the afternoon was filled with jubilant cultural programs. The youth and children showcased their talents, including a thematic dance performance by the hostel girls and a captivating biblical dance by the Cathedral Women Cell. The day concluded with a forward-looking session by Fr. Maxim on follow-up actions, which was endorsed by Bishop Miranda, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration.
The celebration reached its spiritual climax with the Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Bishop Robert Miranda. It was a fitting conclusion, uniting all participants in thanksgiving for the graces received during this Jubilee Year. Fr. Anthony Selvam MSFS delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the day’s success. The faithful departed with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared mission to live as beacons of Christ’s love within their families, parishes, and wider communities.
