Apostolic Nuncio Visit to the Mother of Divine Grace Cathedral, Kalaburagi

After a grace-filled first day at Bhalki, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, His Excellency Most Rev. Leopoldo Girelli, continued his pastoral journey to the Mother of Divine Grace Cathedral, Kalaburagi, on November 2, 2025. The day was a moment of joy and blessing for the Diocese of Gulbarga, as the representative of the Holy Father brought the Papal blessings to the clergy, religious, and faithful of the region.

The Nuncio received a warm and grand welcome at the Cathedral. The school band led the march of honor, followed by a graceful Swagatha Nruthyam presented by the parish youth. Fr. Joseph Praveen, the Parish Priest, along with PPC members, welcomed His Excellency with a bouquet of flowers and traditional Arathi, symbolizing reverence and joy.

To commemorate this historic occasion, the Nuncio inaugurated a large portrait of Mother Mary, newly installed on the Cathedral façade, marking his memorable visit. Bishop Robert Miranda then led a moment of prayer before the altar, entrusting the Diocese of Gulbarga to the maternal care of Mother Mary.

A solemn Holy Eucharist was celebrated by the Nuncio, concelebrated by the Bishop and diocesan clergy. In his homily on the Feast of All Souls, the Nuncio reflected on the Christian call to remember and pray for the departed:

“All Souls’ Day is an expression of our love and affection for our beloved departed ones. The Church is a communion of believers — living and dead. To pray for the souls, especially for those who have no one to pray for them, is an act of charity and solidarity.”

Following the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Joseph Praveen felicitated the Nuncio on behalf of the parish community. In his address, the Nuncio appreciated the beauty, culture, and diversity of Kalaburagi, remarking:

“This city, with its temples and mosques, reflects a rich tapestry of traditions. We must continue to love one another and build bonds of peace and friendship among all people of faith.”

A short inter-religious gathering was also organized on this occasion. Religious leaders from different faiths shared inspiring messages of peace, unity, and mutual respect. Students from St. Mary’s PU College presented a dance performance on peace, adding color and grace to the event.

The celebration witnessed the presence of Fr. Praveen Joseph (Parish Priest), Fr. Aron Vas (Assistant Parish Priest), Fr. Santhosh Bapu (Vicar General), Fr. Stany Lobo, numerous priests, religious sisters, and a large number of lay faithful.

The visit of the Apostolic Nuncio to the Cathedral was truly a historic and grace-filled moment, strengthening the faith and unity of the Diocese of Gulbarga under the loving gaze of Mother Mary, the Mother of Divine Grace.
