Towards Meaningful Liturgy: Clergy Commit to Authentic Worship

A seminar on “Fostering Meaningful Celebration of Liturgy” was organized for the clergy of the Diocese on 28th August 2025 at Sugyan Pastoral Centre, Kalaburagi. Around 40 priests participated in this significant event aimed at enhancing the liturgical life of the diocese.

The resource person was Fr. Moncy Nellikunnel SDB, Head of the Department of Liturgy at Kristu Jyothi College, Bengaluru. Fr. Gerald Saraga, Commission Secretary for Liturgy, introduced the speaker, and Fr. Santhosh Bapu, Vicar General, extended a warm welcome. Fr. Moncy emphasized the importance of conscious and active participation in liturgy, highlighting that every action and gesture carries deep meaning. He also addressed common errors unknowingly committed by clergy during celebrations and provided practical guidance for authentic worship.

After the talk, there was an open discussion where priests clarified doubts, shared experiences, and committed to correct irregular practices. Wrong practices were identified, and concrete points were drawn up for uniform implementation. Bishop Robert Miranda was present during the session and later chaired the discussion on the Closing of the Jubilee Year 2025 and the forthcoming Jathra meeting. The Bishop approved the proposed liturgical norms to be followed in the diocese, ensuring consistency and reverence in celebrations.

The seminar concluded with the Bishop’s words of encouragement, urging all priests to put these decisions into practice for the spiritual benefit of the faithful.
