The Lay Convention of Bidar Deanery took place at Don Bosco Church, Chikpet, on the 3 – 4 of August, under the slogan “Jothe Jothe Nadeyonna Dharma Sabheyanu Bhelesonna,” meaning “Let’s Walk Together, Let’s Be One Church.” This important event brought together the newly installed Parish Pastoral Council, Parish Finance Council, and lay faithful, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual renewal. The convention began with a devotion of Rosary and Adoration. Rev. Fr. Stany Lobo, the Vicar General, gave a comprehensive recap of the year 2023, reflecting on the community’s achievements and challenges. Following this, Rev. Fr. Victor Vas shared insights into the social work carried out in the field and conducted a relevant survey. The evening concluded with an inspiring address by the Bishop.
On the second day, the program started with the Word of God and a reflection delivered by Fr. Lawrence. Fr. Clary warmly welcomed all attendees. The first session, led by Rev. Fr. Anil Prasad, focused on biblical leadership and highlighted various significant figures from the scriptures. The second session, conducted by Rev. Fr. Vincent Pereira, explored ministry within the church, offering guidance on how church leaders can effectively fulfill their roles. This session involved each parish and their parish priest, concentrating on the development and growth of the diocese.
The convention concluded with a final message from the Bishop and a vote of thanks delivered by Fr. Lawrence, the convener. Fr. Sonychen Mathew SDB, Parish Priest of Chikpet Parish, and Rev. Fr. Stevan Lawrence, Mission Superior, made all the arrangements for the success of this event. A similar event will take place in Gulbarga for the Gulbarga, Bijapur, and Yadgir districts on August 18th.
