Apostolic Nuncio Visits Infant Jesus Shrine, Bhalki – A Day of Grace and Blessing

On November 1, 2025, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, His Excellency Most Rev. Leopoldo Girelli, made his first visit to the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bhalki, in the Bidar Deanery of the Diocese of Gulbarga. The visit marked a historic and joy-filled day for the faithful of the diocese.

The Nuncio received a solemn and grand welcome with a bike rally organized by the faithful of Bhalki. The rally began at Shivaji Chowk and culminated at the shrine, accompanied by songs of praise and the waving of flags symbolizing the faith and devotion of the people.

Upon arriving at the shrine, Archbishop Girelli entered the sanctuary with reverence, knelt in silent prayer, and invoked the blessings of the Infant Jesus. Addressing the gathered faithful, he said, “The Infant Jesus blesses us as we draw closer to Him in faith.” He then imparted his Apostolic Blessing and presided over the solemn Holy Eucharist, concelebrated by Bishop Robert Miranda and the priests of the Bidar Deanery.

In his homily, the Nuncio reflected on the Beatitudes, calling them the Christian identity and the path to holiness. He emphasized the cost of discipleship, urging the faithful to live out the Gospel with joy and courage.

After the Eucharist, a short felicitation program was held in honor of the Nuncio. During the ceremony, he was warmly felicitated by the Bishop and representatives of the faithful. He also hoisted the Bhalki Jathra flag and formally inaugurated the annual Shrine Feast, marking the beginning of the much-awaited Jathrostava celebrations.

Following the celebration, the Nuncio visited the Holy Rosary Chapel at Bhajolga village, where he met the local faithful and observed the faith formation activities of the community. Speaking to the people, he said, “Jesus was born in a humble hut and lived joyfully. He feels more at home in this beautiful small chapel than in grand buildings. Faith grows where hearts are simple and open.” He further encouraged the men of the village to participate actively in the Holy Mass and faith formation to walk on the path to heaven.

With warmth and affection, the Nuncio greeted the people in their local style saying “Jai Christ”, which brought smiles and joy to the faithful gathered.

The following day, November 2, 2025, His Excellency continues his  visit to the Mother of Divine Grace Cathedral, Kalaburagi, where he meets clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the diocese.
