Rooted in Faith, Ready to Serve: Diocese Trains Catechists and MCA animators

The Commission for Faith Formation of the Diocese of Gulbarga successfully organized back-to-back formation programs for catechism teachers and youth animators of the Gulbarga and Bidar Denaries on 21st and   22nd June 2025, respectively.

The program was led by Rev. Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, Goa, and was aimed at strengthening the spiritual foundation and pastoral skills of those involved in catechetical ministry. The event for the Gulbarga Denary was held on 21st June, followed by the Bidar Denary session on 22nd June at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bhalki.

The day began with an opening prayer and welcome address, after which Fr. Vijay Machado conducted a series of engaging and insightful sessions. The first session explored the theme “Mission Catechesis – Need & Vision,” focusing on the role of catechists in today’s Church. This was followed by a second session on “Personal Faith Transmission,” emphasizing the importance of authentic witness in passing on the faith.

The third session, titled “Catechism in a New Faith Context,” addressed contemporary challenges and the need to adapt catechetical methods to modern-day realities. The highlight of the day was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which provided spiritual nourishment to all participants.

Post lunch, the fourth session centered on “Youcat for PUC and Degree Students,” introducing the Youth Catechism as a dynamic and accessible tool for engaging young people in matters of faith. A concluding message from the Bishop was delivered, motivating the participants to continue their ministry with dedication and creativity. This was followed by a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the resource persons, organizers, and attendees.

The day concluded with a special meeting for MCA (Missionary Childhood Association) animators. These programs were deeply appreciated by the 40 attendees in Bhalki  and 26 attendees in Kalaburagai  proved to be a significant step in revitalizing catechetical and youth ministry in the Diocese of Gulbarga.
